Mercedes-Benz is a German automobile manufacturer, a multinational division of the German manufacturer Daimler AG. The brand is used for luxury automobiles, buses, coaches, and trucks. The headquarters of Mercedes-Benz is in Stuttgart, Baden-Wrttemberg, Germany. The name first appeared in 1926 under Daimler-Benz, but traces its origins to Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft's 1901 Mercedes and to Karl Benz's 1886 Benz Patent-Motorwagen, which is widely regarded as the first gasoline powered automobile. Mercedes-Benz's slogan is "Das Beste oder nichts" (English: "The best or nothing"). Mercedes-Benz is part of the "German Big 3" luxury automakers, along with Audi and BMW, which are the best-selling luxury automakers in the world.
Mercedes-AMG became a majority owned division of Mercedes-Benz in 1999. The company was integrated into DaimlerChrysler in 1999, and became Mercedes-Benz AMG beginning on 1 January 1999.
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class is a series of full-size luxury sedans produced by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz, a division of German company Daimler AG. The classification was officially introduced in 1972 with the W116 S-Class, which succeeded previous Mercedes-Benz models dating to the mid-1950s. The S-Class has served as the flagship model for Mercedes for over fifty years in its various incarnations.
The Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class are a series of mid-size luxury coups and convertibles produced by German car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz in two generations, respectively based on the W202 and W203 platforms of the C-Class. It was positioned below the Mercedes-Benz CL-Class and SL-Class, but above the SLK-Class.
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class (or ML-Class), known since 2015 as the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class, is a mid-size luxury sport utility vehicle (SUV) introduced in 1997, and built by the German automaker Mercedes-Benz. From 2015, with the release of the facelifted W166 third generation model at the New York Auto Show in April, the M-Class will be renamed to Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class as per the revised nomenclature adopted by the brand. Under this scheme, SUVs use the base name "GL", followed by the model's placement in Mercedes-Benz hierarchy.
The Mercedes-Benz G-Class, sometimes called G-Wagen (short for Gelndewagen, "cross country vehicle"), is a four-wheel drive luxury SUV manufactured by Steyr-Daimler-Puch (now Magna Steyr) in Austria and sold by Mercedes-Benz. Despite the introduction of an intended replacement, the unibody SUV Mercedes-Benz GL-Class in 2006, the G-Class is still in production and is one of the longest produced Mercedes-Benz in Daimler's history, with a span of 35 years. Only the Unimog surpasses it. The G-class was developed as a military vehicle from a suggestion by the Shah of Iran (at the time a significant Mercedes shareholder) to Mercedes and offered as a civilian version in 1979.
